For some, Thanksgiving is and will always be on turkey. Other eaters are more adventurous, and love the challenge of incorporating new, interesting traditions at the Thanksgiving table. Alex and I are flexitarians, which means we eat meat from time to time. At Thanksgiving, we like to offer several options to make everyone at the table satisfied. This week, my sister and her husband are from Thailand and my parents from Minnesota. There are ravenous meat eaters and vegetable lovers at our table, so with a meat dish we will offer a vegetarian main dish as well. After seven years of publishing Thanksgiving vegetarian dishes, we have built a pretty collection. Here are our 10 favorite recipes of vegetarian Thanksgiving main dishes – which we can witness as a delight and something that the whole family will love.
This is a new main course this year and our most popular recipe for the season. The gooey gnocchi are dipped in a tasty pumpkin sauce with creamy goat cheese puffs. Should we say more? We have done it for a few occasions and it gets rave reviews. If you wish to make this gluten-free, pick up gluten-free gnocchi (while traditional potato gnocchi contain flour).
The Pollan Family Table recommended by our sister Tracy Pollan. She was absolutely right: it's a staggering one. Shallots, garlic, white wine and sherry are used in the sauce to bring out a tasty, almost fleshy flavor of vegetables and tofu. Topped with sparkling cheese, it's a magnificent showstopper.
